double standards of nipples

The Double Standards Game Of Nipples.

Girls are mystical and magical creatures who, despite actually being one, I will never fully understand. There are a lot of things that are pretty cool about being female. There are also a lot of things that suck. One of them is slut shaming. I hate it. As a girl I feel like we should all stick together. I am literally that girl from Mean Girls “I wish we could all get along like we used to in middle school… I wish I could bake a cake filled with rainbows and smiles and everyone would eat and be happy.”

One thing girls are massively slut-shamed for is getting their nipples out. I’m going to let you into a little secret ok? I’ve got nipples. They’re on my boobs, they’re pretty cute and I even got them pierced to decorate them. They’re mine, not my boyfriend’s and definitely not society’s. This means that I can do with them what I wish. Yes, in five or ten years I may use them to feed a tiny human that I’ve managed to push out of my vagina, but right now they haven’t got any use other than looking pretty. As we know, men also have nipples. But there’s differences between male and female nipples isn’t there? I mean, sure they look basically the same but they’re not treated that way. Men have no actual use for their nipples, are able to walk around topless without being arrested for indecent exposure and frequently take topless photographs without being slut shamed. Women can feed tiny humans with their nipples. How ace is that?! But we’re not allowed to walk around topless in public and are unable to take topless photographs without being slut shamed constantly. Nipples sure do have a lot of double standards, huh?

Guys, you love buying magazines that contain photos of topless models, but as soon as someone you know takes a topless selfie they’re a slut and don’t respect themselves? You want a girl who’s confident in the bedroom but as soon as a bit of that confidence leaks into a selfie with some cleavage involved, she’s easy?

I can tell you right now, if I ever decide to post a topless selfie on Instagram or Twitter, I am still respecting myself completely. I’m most likely thinking “today is a good boob day. Other people should be able to see how good my boobs are. I’m going to take a photo of my magnificent boobs and allow the public to take a look at these bad boys.” What I’m not going to be doing is not sleep at night because 23-year old Tom from Birmingham thinks girls that take topless photos aren’t “wifey material”. Anyone who uses the word “wifey” isn’t someone I want to marry, don’t worry Tom.

Girls are equally as guilty for slut shaming other girls who have decided to go topless. It might be because of jealousy or it might be because from a young age we’re taught that female breasts and nipples are private. Either way a percentage of girls still find it massively offensive that others of their gender have the guts to post topless selfies on their social media, thus resulting in commenting and tweeting slut shaming remarks. The sooner girls support and congratulate each other on having stellar boobs and the confidence to get them out the better. And the sooner everyone realises female nipples are just as inoffensive as males, the better.

And one last thing. The fact that a girl gets her nipples out is not mutually exclusive to the amount of people she’s slept with. Only idiots would think that though, right?

If you’ve got it, flaunt it ladies!
